Clover

Clover

I went looking for a four leaf clover
Something so hard to find
I found thistles and thorns, mushrooms galore
And I just about lost my mind
I consulted my chart, insulted my heart
When I pretended that I really didn’t care
Down on my knees I found millions of threes
But that four leaf I could not find

Oh you’re so foolish to be such a dreamer
That’s what I always heard
Follow the rules
Don’t be such a schemer
True believers are so absurd

Then I went looking for a needle in a haystack
Something so hard to find
Digging all day I found bushels of hay
And I just about lost my mind
I considered the odds, wondered if the problem
Was not knowing when to pack it in
Forget about hay, twiddle my dreams away
And gracefully take it on the chin

Oh you’re so foolish to be such a dreamer
Put your feet back on the ground
The heart can be
Such a cruel deceiver
Give it up before it lets you down

But they don’t call me stubborn for nothing
Or maybe it’s something more
A couple cups of pluck, a little dash of luck
A taste for the unexplored
Toss it all in a pot, keep stirring a lot
Don’t forget to add a little pinch of hope
You gotta turn up the heat if you want something to eat
And then show those hungry doubters to the door

You’re no fool to be such a dreamer
Of that you have my word
Nothing ventured isn’t just a teaser
It’s a condition that needs no cure

So if you want to find a four leaf clover
Then clovers where you should settle in
And when the going gets rough
Just roll up your cuff
And give it your full concentration
Cancel all your reservations
And take imagination for a spin.
