I’m Gonna Lay Your Burden Down

I’m Gonna Lay Your Burden Down

Inspired, in part, by reading The Wisdom of Donkeys: Finding Tranquility in a Chaotic World, by Andy Merrifield

I’m gonna lay your burden down
I’m gonna place it on the ground
I’m gonna walk away one step at a time
Walking toward my own peace of mind
Untangle the history, let it unwind
And then I’m gonna lay your burden down
Lay your burden down

Well I was talking to my daughter
And here’s what she said,
I want you in my heart Mama
But get out of my head
And out of my kitchen and out of my bed
You gotta lay my burden down

You gotta place it on the ground

Well I was talking to my mother
She’s been dead a long time
Long enough to reconsider
All that she left behind
I said, I’ll keep the love Mama, but if you don’t mind
I think I’m gonna lay your burden down

I’m gonna place it on the ground

Well it started with the Buddha
And I know that it’s true
Then Dalai Lama to me
And now from me to you
Show compassion to your neighbor, your enemies too
And then you gotta lay their burden down

You gotta place it on the ground
